Marselen

Marselen is a former Unsullied slave from Astapor, a eunuch soldier trained from childhood to obey without question. His liberation came when Daenerys Targaryen conquered Astapor and broke the chains of the slave soldiers. Along with his brother Mossador, he was among the Unsullied who chose to serve the dragon queen. His sister Missandei, who had been a scribe for the Good Masters of Astapor, became Daenerys's trusted servant and translator. The bond between the siblings is deep; Missandei speaks of him with love, recalling how he taught her to climb trees and catch fish with his hands, and how she once found him sleeping in a garden covered in butterflies.

Rise to Command

After the fall of Meereen, Daenerys organized her freedmen into three military companies: the Stalwart Shields, the Free Brothers, and the Mother's Men. Marselen was named commander of the Mother's Men, a company composed of former slaves who had been freed by the queen. His position placed him at the heart of Daenerys's military council, where he represented the interests of the freedmen alongside Symon Stripeback of the Free Brothers and Mollono Yos Dob of the Stalwart Shields. When the Yunkai'i besieged Meereen and the peace with Hizdahr zo Loraq grew fragile, Marselen was one of the voices urging Daenerys to prepare for war rather than trust the slavers' promises.

Loyalty and Counsel

Marselen's loyalty to Daenerys is unwavering. When the queen considered leaving Meereen to sail for Westeros after Xaro Xhoan Daxos offered her thirteen galleys, Marselen declared that wherever the Mother of Dragons went, the Mother's Men would go as well. He was present at the council where Daenerys ultimately decided to remain in Meereen, and he supported her efforts to train and arm the freedmen for the coming conflict. After Daenerys flew away on Drogon from Daznak's Pit, Marselen remained in Meereen, serving under Ser Barristan Selmy's provisional command. When the Shavepate Skahaz mo Kandaq began plotting to overthrow King Hizdahr, Marselen was among those consulted, and he expressed his willingness to fight if the peace should fail.

Relationship with Missandei

The death of his brother Mossador, killed by the Sons of the Harpy, deepens Marselen's commitment to Daenerys's cause. Missandei weeps for Mossador, and Daenerys comforts her, offering to send her home to Naath. Missandei refuses, saying she feels safe with the queen. Marselen's presence in Meereen as a commander of the Mother's Men gives Missandei a remaining family tie in the city, and his role in the freedmen's army ties his fate directly to the survival of Daenerys's revolution.
